Could YOU be the next VP Societies and Volunteering?
For me, the best part of being the Vice President Societies and Volunteering is being empowered to make the changes that myself and other students have been asking for. It's incredibly rewarding to take the concerns of students to those in power and lobby them to make changes to the way things are run, and then to see those changes improving the experience for students."
(Chris Grieve, VP Societies & Volunteering 2021/22)
Sabbatical Officer roles are far from your typical job experience and will place you in a working environment which will encourage you to develop a new set of skills to engage an audience of 30,000 students, whilst also challenging and supporting university stakeholders.
The Vice President Societies & Volunteering is the figurehead and public face of the Guild of Societies, leading it democratically with the support of the Societies Executive Committee. They are responsible for the allocation of budgets and the tier statuses awarded to societies. In their role they will often work towards increasing membership and retention for societies and with the support of the activities team orangise Students' Union-led events to showcase societies and their activity.
