Society of the Year (Big)
Society of the Year is awarded to the society who have gone above and beyond this academic year. They have been innovative, determined, and conducted themselves to an exceptional standard in everything they do. Their hard work has enabled successes and achievements for the society and its membership. The Society of the Year are an asset to the Student Union, University, and wider community.
Societies considered as 'big' would typically have over 100 members. Nominations may be moved into a more relevant category if necessary.;
Society of the Year (Small)
Society of the Year is awarded to the society who have gone above and beyond this academic year. They have been innovative, determined, and conducted themselves to an exceptional standard in everything they do. Their hard work has enabled successes and achievements for the society and its membership. The Society of the Year are an asset to the Student Union, University, and wider community.
Societies considered as 'small' would typically have under 100 members. Nominations may be moved into a more relevant category if necessary.
Student Leader Award
This award celebrates the brilliant individuals who lead our Societies and Volunteering Projects. This award is given to a dedicated committee member whose hard work has led to amazing achievements for their Society or volunteering project.
Any society committee member or volunteering project lead volunteer is eligible for this award.
Best Newcomer
This award goes to a Society which was set up in the past year. Despite starting from scratch, they have achieved great things such as hosting successful events, leading campaigns, recruiting a lot of members, or even achieving bronze, silver, or gold tier.
Any Society affiliated to the Guild of Societies after 1st March 2021 is eligible for this award.
Most Improved
This award is presented to a society who has shown vast development and improved the most this year. This society has been committed to the growth and improvement of their society through membership recruitment and retention, hosting exciting events and activities, or even through competition and other achievements.
All societies are eligible for this award.
Outstanding Contribution
This award goes to an individual who has gone above and beyond to positively contribute to Cardiff Students Union, their society, volunteering project, and/or the wider community. The winner of this award has been exceptionally hard working, determined, and committed to making a positive difference. This person has stood out amongst this year’s cohort and has championed the values of the Student Union to an outstanding level. We are incredibly proud of all our volunteers and society members, but this award is for those that we hold as an example to other organisations as a testament to what they have achieved throughout the year.
Any individual from a society or volunteering project is eligible for this award.
Outstanding Achievement
This award goes to a society who have made a huge achievement this year. This could have been a particularly successful event or campaign, achievements in competitions, or facilitating a high level of engagement from society members.
All societies are eligible for this award.
Event of the Year (Big)
This award celebrates the amazing events our societies and volunteering projects host each year. Large events could include large conferences, campaign weeks, gigs, fundraising events and more. The winning event was exciting, engaging, inclusive, and a celebration of the society/project, its members, and others. This award also recognises the hard work put in by the organisers which has led to such a successful event.
Any event hosted by a society/volunteering project this academic year is eligible for this award. The size of the event will be at the discretion of the judging panel. Nominations may be moved into a more relevant category if necessary.
Event of the Year (Small)
This award celebrates the amazing events our societies and volunteering projects host each year. Small events could include movie nights, games nights, workshops, guest speaker events, fundraisers, or any special events outside their normal activity. The winning event was exciting, engaging, inclusive, and a celebration of the society/project, its members, and others. This award also recognises the hard work put in by the organisers which has led to such a successful event.
Any event hosted by a society/volunteering project this academic year is eligible for this award. The size of the event will be at the discretion of the judging panel. Nominations may be moved into a more relevant category if necessary.
Collaboration of the Year
This award goes to the best collaboration between 2 or more groups this year. This collaboration could have been between Societies, Volunteering Projects, Student Led Services, or even an event in collaboration with an association or campaign officer. This could include highly successful events or campaigns.
Any collaboration held this academic year is eligible for this award.
Fundraisers of the Year
This award recognises the amazing lengths our societies, volunteering projects, and individuals have gone to, organising, and hosting enjoyable and engaging fundraising events to raise money for incredibly deserving and life-changing charities. This award recognises a society, volunteering project, or individual who are hardworking and passionate about making a difference.
Any society, volunteering project, or individual is eligible for this award.
SLS of the Year
This award goes to the best Student Led Service this year. The winning SLS of the year has gone above and beyond for all students this year, providing an invaluable service on campus.

Volunteer of the Year
This award is for that volunteer who goes the extra mile beyond what is expected of a volunteer. It’s for that volunteer that shows commitment to the project by turning up every week, they’re enthusiastic about the project and really believe in what they’re doing. We have hundreds of fantastic volunteers but some of them really go over and above what is expected of them and this award is here to recognise that.
All community volunteers are eligible for this award.
Volunteering Project of the Year
This award is for the project that has the biggest impact on it’s beneficiaries and that have been developed in such a way that they have ensured the sustainability of their project. Many of our projects, thanks to the hard work of our volunteers, have a huge impact on the people that they are intended for. Our volunteers are involved countless projects that benefit the most vulnerable people in our society. The time they take to volunteer to try and make a difference to people no matter how small is really commendable and this award goes some way to saying thank you to those projects that have made the biggest impact on our community.

Student Led Campaign of the Year
This award goes to the best collaboration between 2 or more groups this year. This collaboration could have been between Societies, Volunteering Projects, Student Led Services, or even an event in collaboration with an association or campaign officer. This could include highly successful events or campaigns.
Any collaboration held this academic year is eligible for this award.
Heath Park Award
The Heath Park award is awarded to a Heath Based Society, Volunteering project, or individual who has gone above and beyond this academic year. They have been innovative, determined, and conducted themselves to an exceptional standard in everything they do to positively impact the Heath Park campus and student community. The winner of the Heath Park Award is an asset to the Student Union, University and Heath Park Campus, and wider community.
All Heath based groups and individuals are eligible for this award.

The following awards are not open for nominations, but all societies are eligible and in with a chance of winning!
- Bronze Award: This award is presented to the societies who have been successful in achieving Bronze Tier.
- Silver Award: This award is presented to the societies who have been successful in achieving Silver Tier.
- Gold Award: This award is presented to the societies who have been successful in achieving Gold Tier.
- Platinum Award: This award is presented to the societies who have been successful in achieving Platinum Tier. This was a brand-new tier for 2021/2022 and we commend the hard work of the committee and the society which has led to this impressive achievement.;
- Society Shield: This award was introduced by the VP Societies and Volunteering to give extra recognition to one of the year’s award-winning societies, who we believe has truly gone above and beyond for their members and the wider student community.
- Guild of Societies Award: This is a special recognition award picked by the Awards panel for the society we believe deserves special recognition for their achievements this year. This award recognises the society which has gone the extra mile. They have gone above and beyond for their members; creating new and innovative events and activities and exceeding their development targets, and really embodies the values of the Guild of Societies.;
