Autumn Election nominations are now open!

Nominations for a number of our positions have been extended. You can still nominate yourself for Student Senate, the Athletic Union Executive Committee, Heath Park Executive Committee, Societies, Volunteering & Media Executive Committee, and the Welsh Executive Committee.

The extended nominations period closes at 16:00 on Thursday 10 October.

Autumn Elections

What are the elections?

The Students' Union is a democratic membership organisation. This means that every decision we make is made by you, our students at Cardiff University. The Students' Union is led by groups such as our Sabbatical Officers, Campaign Officers, Student Senate, and Executive Committees.

Our elections are your chance to make your voice heard while studying at Cardiff University. It offers you a chance to change things about your university life by putting yourself forward to lead your Students' Union or electing people who can best represent your views.

We have two sets of elections each year, one in Autumn and the other in Spring. Our Autumn Elections are held in October for Student Senate, Executive Committees, any vacant Officer positions, and NUS Conference Delegates. Our Spring Elections are held in February and March for full-time Sabbatical Officer, and Campaign Officer Positions for the following academic year.

Voting

Voting in Students' Union election is one way you can ensure your voice is heard. Our elections use the single transferable voting method. Transferable voting allows voters to list the candidates in order of preference. The successful candidate will need 50% of the total number of votes plus 1 in order to win. If any candidate does not receive enough votes to win, that candidate’s votes will be transferred to the other candidates according to voters’ next preferences.

If you don't believe any of the candidates standing for a position have the qualities you feel are valuable, or you don't agree with their manifesto, you can vote R.O.N. which stands for 're-open nominations. If R.O.N wins the vote, no one would be elected to this role and the nominations for the role would re-open, giving the opportunity to find the right person to lead your Union.

Mae Undeb y Myfyrwyr yn fudiad aelodaeth democrataidd. Mae hyn yn golygu bod pob penderfyniad a wnawn yn cael ei wneud gennych chi, ein myfyrwyr ym Mhrifysgol Caerdydd. Mae Undeb y Myfyrwyr yn cael ei arwain gan grwpiau fel ein Swyddogion Sabothol, Swyddogion Ymgyrchu, Senedd y Myfyrwyr, Pwyllgorau Gwaith.

Ein hetholiadau yw eich cyfle i leisio'ch barn tra byddwch yn astudio ym Mhrifysgol Caerdydd. Mae'n rhoi cyfle i chi newid pethau am eich bywyd prifysgol drwy gynnig eich hun i arwain Undeb y Myfyrwyr neu ethol y bobl a all gynrychioli eich barn orau.

Mae gennym ddwy set o etholiadau bob blwyddyn, un yn yr Hydref a'r llall yn y Gwanwyn. Cynhelir Etholiadau’r Hydref ym mis Hydref ar gyfer Senedd y Myfyrwyr, Pwyllgorau Gwaith, unrhyw swyddi gwag ar gyfer Swyddogion, a Chynrychiolwyr i Gynhadledd UCM. Cynhelir Etholiadau’r Gwanwyn ym mis Chwefror a mis Mawrth ar gyfer Swyddogion Sabothol llawn-amser, a Swyddogion Ymgyrchu ar gyfer y flwyddyn academaidd ganlynol.

Pleidleisio

Mae pleidleisio mewn etholiad Undeb y Myfyrwyr yn un ffordd y gallwch chi sicrhau bod eich llais yn cael ei glywed. Mae ein hetholiadau yn defnyddio’r dull pleidlais sengl drosglwyddadwy. Mae pleidleisio trosglwyddadwy yn caniatáu i bleidleiswyr restru'r ymgeiswyr yn nhrefn blaenoriaeth. Bydd angen 50% o gyfanswm y pleidleisiau ac 1 ar yr ymgeisydd llwyddiannus er mwyn ennill. Os na fydd unrhyw ymgeisydd yn cael digon o bleidleisiau i ennill, bydd pleidleisiau'r ymgeisydd hwnnw'n cael eu trosglwyddo i'r ymgeiswyr eraill yn ôl dewisiadau nesaf y pleidleiswyr.

Os nad ydych chi'n credu bod gan unrhyw un o'r ymgeiswyr sy'n sefyll ar gyfer rôl y rhinweddau rydych chi'n teimlo sy'n werthfawr, neu os nad ydych chi'n cytuno â'u maniffesto, gallwch chi bleidleisio ‘R.O.N.’ sy'n sefyll am ail-agor enwebiadau. Pe bai R.O.N. yn ennill y bleidlais, ni fyddai neb yn cael ei ethol i’r rôl hon, a byddai’r enwebiadau ar gyfer y rôl yn ail-agor, gan roi’r cyfle i ddod o hyd i’r person iawn i arwain eich Undeb.
