About Me
Hey! I am Meg, your new Vice President Sports and Athletics Union President! From a very young age I have always been involved in sport, giving most sports a go, from football to tennis to athletics, until I found my calling in netball, which I have played for the past 14 years. I’ve played at school, college, university, club, county, regional and NPL level as well as in the national colleges squad.
I came to Cardiff University in 2018 and have just completed a BSc in Human Geography. I joined the netball club as a fresher, in fact I was attending pre-season training before I’d even moved into Taly!
My official involvement with the Athletic Union began when I was elected as Umpire Sec of Cardiff University Netball Club in my 2nd year, and then in the following year I was elected as President. I have loved being part of the netball club and I believe it really shaped my university experience, helping me find my closest friends and make some of my favourite university memories. It’s through my position as President that I gained insight to the amazing work the AU does, especially throughout what has been an unbelievably tough year for sport. Indeed, it was precisely those challenges and my relationship with Jude who was my AU president, which inspired me to run in the Students Union elections. I wanted to continue all the great work Jude has done and to ensure that next academic year sport can get back up and running on both the physical and social side.
I believe that sport is far more than just physical performance, it is the network of support and opportunities which can enhance and transform everyone’s wellbeing and university experience. From social members, recreational players and elite athletes, I am here to get everyone back playing the sport they love and providing the best AU experience for them.
My priorities for the year include:
- Ensuring all outdoor facilities are multi-sport compliant to enable sport to continue should COVID-19 restrictions remain.
- Improve communications to encourage that ‘Varsity feeling’ all year – invest in media equipment and involve student sports journalists/media students.
- Improve support for sport injuries with better insurance and provision of discounted physio to all AU clubs.
If you have any questions please come and talk to me, my door is always open!
