About Me
Hi/Shwmae everyone! My name’s Chris and this year I’m working as your VP Societies and Volunteering! I’m extremely excited for the year ahead and can’t wait to see what our student-groups have to offer!
My own experience with societies didn’t start until my second semester as a fresher. Despite being late to the party, I walked out of the try-january fair with half a dozen more memberships than when I went in, and loved every second I spent at their events! If you take just one thing away from this short biography, make it the fact that it’s never too late to get involved!
And get involved I did! Since then I’ve been the president of the bioscience society and the vice president of the ice skating club. Both of which were fantastic experiences, regardless of everything covid tried to throw our way. Following that, I took my love of societies to the next level and stood for this position, which is an absolute honour to have!
This year, I’ll be working with our societies and volunteering groups to (hopefully) support them returning to in-person activity. I’ll be making sure every group in the union has what they need to run successfully; whether they’re involved in activity, culture, or performance! There’s something for everyone here at Cardiff, so I’d strongly encourage anyone and everyone to get involved!
To that end, if you ever want to email me and talk about societies (or anything else that’s bothering you for that matter!) then my inbox is open and I look forward to meeting some of you soon!
My priorities for the year include:
- Acquiring space for groups to run their activity both within and outside the union, so they can get back to doing what they love ASAP
- Improving access to committee resources through the website and student portal, so committees can spend less time looking for important documents and more time planning activity
- Improving the quality of policies and systems in place for committees and societies, including complaints and guest speaker procedures
