SU President Executive Committee
We want all members of the Students’ Union to be able to get involved and shape the work that we do. One of the ways you can get involved is through the elected officers' executive committees or networks.
Each Sabbatical Officer has an executive committee which is designed to shape and support their work. This could include supporting them in the development of policy, running outreach activity, or simply putting on events and activities students want to see.
The SU President Executive Committee is made up of 12 members, 6 directly elected through a cross-campus ballot, and 6 selected by the SU President.

Updates from the SU President Executive Committee
Update (19.11.2024)
Welcome and Introductions –
- Madison welcomed members of the exec to the first meeting of the academic year. Madison talked members through the SU Presidents’ Exec Committee guidance document and welcomed questions. Madison confirmed that the selection process for her exec closes at 10am on Thursday 21st November.
Updates –
- Madison has been running a Men’s Mental Health Campaign throughout November alongside VP Cymraeg – it is called AlrightMate? It is primarily a social media campaign with additional outreach across campus. They have launched a new social media series called Taf Talks where they speak to committee members from sports clubs and hear their experiences of dealing with mental health and stress at university.
- Madison has also launched a campaign against Cardiff Council’s parking permit ban for students. Madison stressed to the exec that this issue is bigger than parking permits and she is fighting to prevent Cardiff Council stripping students in the city from their rights.
- Madison is continuing to work on tackling sexual violence on campus. She has restarted the student working group and is continuing to lobby the university on several elements of the AGM motion that passed last year.
- Madison is continuing to work with University Estates and the EDI hub to improve the prayer space facilities around campus. One of her key messages to the university is the need for separate spaces for prayer spaces and quiet spaces as the needs are conflicting. The University are going through a period of transformation, so some progress has been stalled due to this.
Feedback -
- Members of the exec raised concerns about a recent event that occurred in the School of Law and Politics. Madison informed the exec that she had raised this with the relevant senior staff from student support to ensure action was taken. Madison also expressed that she was disappointed to see the wording used by the school.
- Members of the exec raised concerns about AGM later this week. Madison ran through the order of AGM and informed students that members of staff would be on standby if any student needed any additional support before, during or after the event.
- Members of the exec have asked Madison to set up a Prayer Space working group for students. Madison said she is keen to set this up and will work over the coming weeks to arrange this meeting.
AOB -
- Madison informed the committee they would meet again the following week (hopefully with some of the selected members) and she would share a copy of her manifesto with the committee in the meantime.
- Madison also informed the committee of the dates for accountability and explained the process to them.
As mentioned above, there are two ways to successfully be appointed to the SU President's Executive Committee. You can either opt to run in the Autumn Elections process and be elected via cross campus ballot, or apply via the selection process.
