Y Plas is our multi-purpose venue for both daytime social learning and nightime entertainment.  Featuring a mezzanine balcony, new bars, a glass roof and state of the art decor, our recent redevelopment has had excellent feedback from our students. 

If you're here writing an essay or need somewhere to eat your lunch during the day between lectures, feel free to make yourself at home. We've got free wifi, natural lighting, and we've even got plug sockets in the booths upstairs. You can also take a break from studying and grab a coffee from Starbucks in the food court. 

Y Plas is also a renowned  venue. It's hosted all kinds of events from clubnights, gigs and of course parties and society performances. Party the night away at our legendary Wednesday night clubnight YOLO, or watch your favourite artists perform on the stage. Cardiff University Students' Union is famous for it's legendary clubnights and for hosting amazing live music events. We've had some great acts perform in the last year including Jake Bugg, Bastille and London Grammar.  Y Plas has also hosted Students' Union awards, balls and performances such as the Cardiff Fringe Festival.

The Great Hall

The Great Hall is located on the 1st floor of the Union building and is a multi-purpose venue.

By day it houses everything from lectures, freshers fayres and exhibitions, to the occasional beer festival and dodgeball tournament.You might even find yourself sitting an exam in there during your time at Cardiff University. 

By night it is best known as a legendary Cardiff gig venue with acts including Ben Howard, The Civil Wars, Marillion and Mayday Parade featuring. The Great Hall also hosts formal dinners and awards evenings.

The Taf is your friendly student local serving cold drinks and homemade food seven days a week. Look out for our nightly events and discounts including our famous Taf Quiz every Thursday, Bar Exchange every Friday and introducing Quids and Quiz every Sunday!

The Taf uses welsh supplier wherever possible and the delicious menu is largely homemade. Choose from breakfast, mighty melts, sharers, light bites and homemade traditional mains. At the Taf we also cater for a number dietary requirements and have a large vegan selection.

The Taf is proud to serve a wide selection of local and world beverages! Boasting 10 draught products including possibly the cheapest pint of Guinness you’ll find in Cardiff and an ever changing selection of bottled beers plus a few old favourites like Corona, Kopparberg and of course VK! We’ve had a lot of fun this summer researching and testing various Gins, it’s been tough but we’ve managed to narrow down the list to our favourite 11, we hope you enjoy them as much as we do!

Y Stiwdio

Y Stiwdio was redeveloped in 2015 following student feedback, transforming it into a multi-purpose performance space. Featuring a sprung dance floor, mirrored walls with ballet bars, a fully licensed bar and sound system, this is a great venue for society rehersals, private functions and smaller, intimate gigs

The Lounge

Situated on the 3rd floor of the Students' Union, The Lounge opened in October 2011, boasting a range of high tech features within a versatile open plan space. The Lounge provides alcohol-free social learning space to our student members with plenty of tables and seats available, as well as individual and group pods with computer access.

The Lounge contains the Sir Donald Walters Boardroom, which features the latest audio visual equipment and seats 20 people around a large conference table. Additional space for refreshments and literature is also available. This is the ideal space for formal meetings, planning sessions or a lunchtime working group. The Sir Donald Walters Boardroom is available to book free of charge for student groups as well as being available at a reasonable fee for businesses.

The Lounge also contains a multi-faith prayer room for use at any time, as well as a small kitchen with a microwave for heating food. In the warmer months, there is a balcony with seating and tables.

The venue is open 24 hours a day for use by students providing valuable space for study throughout the day and night, seven days a week.To access The Lounge during the night, please enter the Students' Union building via the Park Place entrance.

This venue is accessible by stairs or lift.
