Another month has flown by at the SU, and the end of Term One is just around the corner! We’ve shown no signs of slowing down this term - let’s reflect on a November full of hard-hitting Officer campaigns, democracy, and incredible displays of student talent and success.
Campaigns
Parking Consultation
Your Sabbs have been working around the clock for your right to parking in Cardiff, and you have played a huge role so far in helping us fight Cardiff Council’s proposals. Here is what we have achieved:
AlrightMate?
At the beginning of November, we launched the AlrightMate? campaign, which focuses on men’s mental health, and the importance of men opening up to each other.
"We have filmed a series of Taf Talks, short interviews both in English and Cymraeg, that are starting the conversation with members of various sports teams from the University, so far over 20 people have taken part! These will be released throughout the year, as men’s mental health isn't just an important topic in November."
Catrin, VP Cymraeg.
Democracy
AGM
Over 800 of you attended our Annual General Meeting (AGM). 15 motions were submitted by students, receiving 1,072 votes to determine the top four to be debated at the meeting. All four motions passed, as well as our BUCS and NUS affiliations. For more information on the motions, you can read the full agenda, here.
Speak Week
What an amazing week of student feedback! We are still waiting on the grand total from all Schools, but our SU outreach team collected 1,524 comment cards at our stalls across campus, and over 100 of you submitted feedback online – a total of 2,631 responses so far! Thanks a million to everyone who had their say, this feedback to so important and plays a vital role in lobbying the University for the changes students want to see in Cardiff. Keep an eye out for more updates next term…
Events
Medics Varsity
Coordinated by your VP Sport, Georgia, and VP Heath, Shola, Cardiff turned up despite Storm Bert playing havoc…
"It was a clean sweep (6-0) for Cardiff at Medics Varsity this year! Our Medics teams did a fantastic job by competing and WINNING in the cold, wet and windy weather at Llanrumney Playing Fields against Bristol Medics. Shout out to all the supporters who showed up and cheered on all the student athletes. Cardiff retains the Medics Varsity shield for another year!"
Georgia, VP Sports & AU President.
Winter Showcase
Nearly 200 of you were in the audience for the festive highlight of the year, with your VP Socs & Vol, Eve as the captivating host.
"Winter Showcase was such a success! It was so wonderful seeing everyone come together to support all the 26 societies involved. There was so much talent and creativity in the room, and everyone was in such a festive spirit!"
Eva, VP Societies & Volunteering.
Mae mis arall wedi hedfan heibio yn yr UM, ac mae diwedd Tymor Un ar y gweill! Mae wedi bod yn dymor prysur – gadewch i ni adlewyrchu ar Dachwedd llawn ymgyrchoedd pwysig gan ein Swyddogion, democratiaeth, ac arddangosfeydd anhygoel o dalent a llwyddiannau myfyrwyr.
Ymgyrchoedd
Ymgynghoriad Parcio
Mae eich Swyddogion Sabothol wedi bod yn gweithio’n ddi-baid i ddiogelu eich hawl i barcio yng Nghaerdydd, ac rydych chi wedi chwarae rôl fawr wrth frwydro cynigion Cyngor Caerdydd. Dyma beth rydym wedi’i gyflawni:
IawnMêt?
Ar ddechrau Tachwedd fe wnaethom ail-lansio'r ymgyrch IawnMêt?, sy’n ffocysu ar iechyd meddwl dynion a phwysigrwydd trafod teimladau.
"Rydym wedi ffilmio cyfres o Drafodaethau’r Taf, cyfweliadau byr yn Saesneg a’r Gymraeg, sy’n dechrau’r drafodaeth gydag aelodau o wahanol glybiau chwaraeon y Brifysgol, gyda dros 20 wedi cymryd rhan hyd yma! Fe fyddan nhw’n cael eu rhyddhau trwy gydol y flwyddyn, gan nad ym mis Tachwedd yn unig y mae iechyd meddwl dynion yn bwysig."
Catrin, Is-lywydd y Gymraeg.
Democratiaeth
CCB
Gwnaeth dros 800 o fyfyrwyr fynychu ein Cyfarfod Cyffredinol Blynyddol (CCB). Cyflwynwyd 15 cynnig gan fyfyrwyr, gyda 1,072 o bleidleisiau wedi’u derbyn i ddewis y pedwar a fyddai’n cael eu trafod yn y cyfarfod. Pasiwyd pob un o’r pedwar cynnig, ynghyd â’n hymlyniadau â BUCS ac UCM. Am ragor o wybodaeth ar y cynigion, gallwch ddarllen yr agenda lawn yma.
Wythnos Siarad
Am wythnos anhygoel o adborth gan fyfyrwyr! Rydym yn aros am y cyfanswm gan yr holl ysgolion ond gwnaeth tîm allgymorth yr UM casglu 1,524 o gardiau adborth ar ein stondinau o amgylch y campws, a gwnaeth dros 100 ohonoch rannu adborth ar-lein – gyda chyfanswm o 2,361 ymateb hyd yma! Diolch enfawr i bawb a rhannodd eu barn - mae’r adborth hwn mor bwysig ac mae’n chwaraeon rôl hanfodol wrth ein helpu i lobïo’r Brifysgol am newidiadau y mae myfyrwyr am eu gweld yng Nghaerdydd. Cadwch lygad allan am ragor o ddiweddariadau tymor nesaf...
Digwyddiadau
Gornest y Meddygon
Wedi’i gydlynu gan eich IL Chwaraeon, Georgia, ac IL y Mynydd Bychan, Shola, gwnaeth Caerdydd perfformio hyd eithaf eu gallu er i Storm Bert ceisio achosi problemau...
"Roedd yn fuddugoliaeth ysgubol (6-0) i Gaerdydd yng Ngornest y Meddygon eleni! Gwnaeth ein timoedd meddygol yn ffantastig wrth gystadlu ac ENNILL yn y gwynt a’r glaw yng Nghaeau Llanrhymni yn erbyn meddygon Bryste. A diolch i bawb a ddaeth i gefnogi ein hathletwyr. Mae Caerdydd wedi cadw tarian Gornest y Meddygon am flwyddyn arall!"
Georgia, Is-lywydd Chwaraeon a Llywydd yr Undeb Athletau
Gŵyl y Gaeaf
Roedd bron 200 ohonoch yn y gynulleidfa ar gyfer uchafbwynt ein dathliadau Nadoligaidd, gyda’r IL Cymdeithasau a Gwirfoddoli, Eve, yn arwain y noson.
"Roedd Gŵyl y Gaeaf yn llwyddiant enfawr! Roedd yn wych gweld pawb yn dod ynghyd i ddathlu’r 26 cymdeithas a gymerodd rhan. Roedd gymaint o dalent a chreadigrwydd yn yr ystafell, a’r awyrgylch yn hyfryd!"
Eva, Is-lywydd Cymdeithasau a Gwirfoddoli
