Cardiff Students’ Union and Cardiff University proudly announces its participation in the upcoming Pride Cymru march, which will take place on June 17th and 18th in the vibrant Cardiff city centre. The University and Students’ Union, recognised for their commitment to diversity and inclusion, are excited to join this momentous event that celebrates the rich LGBTQ+ culture in Wales.

Pride Cymru is a volunteer-led charity that works to promote the elimination of discrimination, be it on the grounds of sexual orientation, gender, race, religion, or ability.

Cardiff Students' Union, an integral part of the university community, plays a pivotal role in creating a welcoming space for all. With inclusivity at its heart, the Students' Union provides a platform for individuals to express themselves freely and engage in a wide range of activities that promote understanding, acceptance, and social cohesion through societies, clubs, and events throughout the year.

Every year, Cardiff Students’ Union celebrates LGBTQ+ History Month in February and runs numerous events from performance showcases and book clubs, to film viewings and guest speaker events. The Students' Union also supports Stonewall's Rainbow Laces campaign at the Welsh Varsity sports tournament each year, encouraging athletes competing to wear Rainbow Laces. Supporting this campaign reaffirms the Students' Union's belief that all students should feel welcome and able to play sport regardless of sexuality, gender identity or ability.

Cardiff University is dedicated to fostering an inclusive environment where all students and staff feel valued, respected, and supported. As an institution that embraces diversity as one of its core values, the university recognises the importance of promoting equality and celebrating the LGBTQ+ community.

Shreshth Goel, the Vice President for Societies and Volunteering at Cardiff University, expressed his enthusiasm for the University's involvement in the Pride Cymru march, stating:

"This is an incredible opportunity to come together as a community and celebrate the vibrant LGBTQ+ culture in Wales.”

"Cardiff University and the Students’ Union values the rich diversity of its student body and staff, and we are proud to stand in solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community during this momentous event. Pride Cymru is a testament to the progress we have made, and it is a reminder that we must continue striving for a more inclusive society."

The Pride Cymru march is an annual event that brings people together from all walks of life to support and celebrate LGBTQ+ rights. It serves as a powerful platform for raising awareness, promoting acceptance, and advocating for equality. Cardiff University's participation in this event reflects its ongoing commitment to creating an environment where diversity is embraced and celebrated.

By joining the Pride Cymru march, both the University and Students’ Union reinforces its dedication to supporting the LGBTQ+ community and fostering an environment where everyone feels valued and empowered.
