Finding the perfect study spot can make all the difference when you’re trying to stay productive, especially during deadlines and exam season. Over my time as a student (and now as your SU President!), I’ve explored countless study spaces across Cardiff University and the SU. Whether you need absolute silence or a laid-back atmosphere, here’s my round-up of the best spots to hit the books.
1. The SU Lounge (Third Floor, Students’ Union)
Tucked away on the third floor of the Students’ Union, the Lounge is a personal favourite. It’s ideal for independent work, with plenty of desks, comfortable chairs, and charging points. But there is also lots of space for collaborative work – so if you have a group project this is the spot!
What I love most about this space is how close it is to everything you might need. Feeling sluggish? Order a coffee from Starbucks straight to your table or grab a quick bite from The Taf. Need a break? Play some table tennis!
2. The Sir Martin Evans Building
This is one of the more underrated study spaces at Cardiff University. Located on Park Place, the Sir Martin Evans Building offers a mix of study zones, including quieter areas for independent work.
If you’re a science student, this might already be familiar territory, but it’s open to everyone.
3. ASSL (Arts and Social Studies Library)
The SLAYSSL! The Arts and Social Studies Library is an iconic Cardiff study spot for good reason. It has something for everyone: silent study rooms for those who need absolute focus, group work areas for collaborative projects, and comfy seating zones if you’re planning to stay for hours.
Personally, I love the top floor for its quiet atmosphere. Whether you’re working on an essay, cramming for exams, or just reading, the ASSL is a reliable choice. (Yes, I did cram my dissertation in the ASSL).
Pro tip: During busy periods, leave extra time to find a good seat!
4. The Health Library
A hidden gem on Heath Campus is the Health Library. This space is smaller than some of the other libraries, but what it lacks in size, it makes up for in tranquillity. It’s a great escape from the hustle and bustle of Cathays, especially during peak times.
The library also has a great collection of healthcare resources, making it a go-to for anyone studying medicine, nursing, or related fields. Even if you’re not, the library’s calm environment is perfect for powering through your work.
Pro tip: If you’re a cyclist, Heath Park has excellent bike racks, making it easy to get here without worrying about parking.
5. SU Cwtch (Second Floor)
If you’re someone who works better in a more casual environment, the SU Cwtch space is a fantastic option. Whether it’s the relaxed seating by the Starbucks or the tables near Vegan Filth, these spaces are perfect for light reading or group discussions. It’s a great place to catch up with friends or brainstorm ideas while staying productive.
Pro tip: It is also a great place to grab lunch without going anywhere! You have The Taf ordering, Ty Tatws, and Vegan Filth!
6. SU Balconi
The new Balconi study space is the place to be! You may be used to this being part of YOLO on a Wednesday night but during the day it’s a top study space! Whether you want to sit in a booth or at a table we’ve got you covered. There’s so many plug sockets they’re coming from the ceiling (Quite literally, just pull them down!)
Pro tip: You can order Starbucks and lunch from The Taf straight to your table ;)
7. Bute Library (Bute Building)
Bute Library, located in the iconic Bute Building on King Edward VII Avenue, is a fantastic space for students who thrive in quiet, structured environments.
The library’s layout is spacious and modern, with plenty of desks, comfortable chairs, and access to power sockets for charging your devices. One of my favourite things about Bute Library is how quiet it is—it’s a great place to focus without distractions.
Pro tip: Bute Library is just a short walk from Bute Park, so take advantage of the green space during your breaks. A quick stroll or a coffee outside does wonders for your productivity.
8. Centre for Student Life (CSL)
The CSL is one of the newest additions and it’s quickly become a favourite study space for many students—including me!
Located right in the heart of Cathays, the building offers a wide range of study spaces to suit different needs. Whether you’re looking for quiet individual study areas, collaborative spaces for group work, or even informal seating for some light reading, the CSL has it all.
Pro tip: During exam season you need to get there early for a seat!

Gall dod o hyd i’r man astudio perffaith wneud gwahaniaeth mawr pan fyddwch yn ceisio gweithio, yn enwedig pan fod gennych waith cwrs ac arholiadau. Yn ystod fy amser fel myfyriwr (a nawr fel Llywydd eich UM!) rydw i wedi ymweld â llwyth o ardaloedd astudio ar draws Prifysgol Caerdydd a’r UM. P'un ai oes angen tawelwch llwyr arnoch neu awyrgylch hamddenol, dyma restr o fy hoff lefydd i astudio.
1. Lolfa’r UM (Trydydd Llawr, Undeb y Myfyrwyr)
Ar drydydd llawr Undeb y Myfyrwyr, dyma un o fy hoff lefydd. Mae’n berffaith ar gyfer gweithio ar eich pen eich hun, gyda digon o ddesgiau, seddi cyfforddus, a mannau gwefru. Ond mae hefyd llwyth o ardaloedd ar gyfer gweithio gydag eraill – felly os oes gennych brosiect grŵp dyma’r lle i ddod!
Yr hyn rwy’n ei garu fwyaf am yr ardal hon yw pa mor agos ydyw at bopeth sydd ei angen. Wedi blino? Archebwch goffi o Starbucks yn syth i’ch bwrdd neu ewch am fwyd yn Y Taf. Angen saib? Gallwch chwarae tenis bwrdd!
2. Adeilad Syr Martin Evans
Mae’r ardal astudio yma yn aml yn cael ei hanghofio. Wedi’i leoli ar Blas y Parc, mae Adeilad Syr Martin Evans yn cynnig cymysgedd o ardaloedd astudio, gan gynnwys mannau tawel ar gyfer gwaith annibynnol.
Os ydych yn fyfyriwr gwyddoniaeth, efallai eich bod eisoes yn gyfarwydd â’r adeilad, ond mae ar agor i bawb.
3. ASSL (Llyfrgell y Celfyddydau ac Astudiaethau Cymdeithasol)
Mae’r ASSL yn lleoliad astudio eiconig am reswm da. Mae ganddi rywbeth i bawb: ystafelloedd tawel er mwyn ffocysu, ardaloedd gwaith grŵp ar gyfer prosiectau ar y cyd, a seddi cyfforddus os ydych yn golygu aros am gwpwl o oriau.
Yn bersonol, rwy’n hoff o’r llawr uchaf oherwydd ei awyrgylch tawel. Boed os ydych yn gweithio ar draethawd, yn adolygu ar gyfer arholiadau, neu’n darllen, mae’r ASSL yn dewis dibynadwy. (Dyma ble es i er mwyn cwblhau fy nhraethawd hir).
Cyngor: Yn ystod cyfnodau prysur, rhowch amser ychwanegol i’ch hun er mwyn dod o hyd i sedd dda!
4. Y Llyfrgell Iechyd
Perl cudd ar Gampws y Mynydd Bychan yw’r Llyfrgell Iechyd. Mae’r ardal yma’n llai na rhai o’r llyfrgelloedd eraill, ond mae’n gwneud fyny am ei maint gyda’i hawyrgylch hamddenol. Mae’n le gwych i fynd er mwyn dianc prysurdeb Cathays, yn enwedig yn ystod adegau prysur.
Mae hefyd gan y llyfrgell casgliad gwych o adnoddau gofal iechyd, gan ei wneud yn berffaith ar gyfer unrhyw un sy’n astudio meddygaeth, nyrsio, neu debyg. Mae amgylchedd heddychlon y llyfrgell yn berffaith er mwyn bwrw trwy eich gwaith.
Cyngor: Os ydych yn beicio, mae gan Barc y Mynydd Bychan digon o lefydd i chi gloi eich beic, sy’n golygu gallwch ddod yma heb boeni am barcio.
5. Cwtch yr UM (Ail Lawr)
Os ydych chi’n gweithio’n well mewn amgylchedd gydag ychydig mwy o sŵn, mae Cwtch yr UM yn opsiwn ffantastig. Gyda seddi cyfforddus a’n agos at Starbucks a Vegan Filth, mae’r ardal yma’n berffaith ar gyfer darllen ysgafn a gwaith grŵp. Mae’n le gwych i gwrdd gyda ffrindiau neu rannu syniadau wrth i chi weithio.
Cyngor: Mae hefyd yn le perffaith am ginio! Gallwch archebu i’ch bwrdd o’r Taf neu alw heibio Tŷ Tatws a Vegan Filth!
6. Balconi’r UM
Ardal astudio newydd y Balconi yw’r lle i fod! Efallai eich bod wedi arfer gweld yr ardal fel rhan o YOLO ar nos Fercher ond yn ystod y dydd mae’n fan astudio! Gallwch eistedd mewn bwth neu wrth fwrdd, ac mae digonedd o fannau gwefru (sy’n dod lawr o’r nenfwd!)
Cyngor: Gallwch archebu Starbucks a chinio o’r Taf yn syth i’ch bwrdd ;)
7. Llyfrgell Bute (Adeilad Bute)
Mae Llyfrgell Bute, wedi’i lleoli yn yr Adeilad Bute eiconig ar Rodfa'r Brenin Edward VII, yn le ffantastig i fyfyrwyr sy’n ffynnu mewn amgylchedd tawel.
Mae’r llyfrgell yn fawr a’n fodern, gyda digon o ddesgiau, seddi cyfforddus, a mynediad at fannau gwefru. Un o fy hoff bethau am Lyfrgell Bute yw’r tawelwch – mae’n le gwych i ffocysu heb amhariadau.
Cyngor: Mae Llyfrgell Bute yn agos at Barc Bute, felly cymerwch fantais o’r awyr iach. Gall cerdded am ychydig neu goffi tu allan gwneud gwahaniaeth mawr.
8. Canolfan Bywyd y Myfyrwyr (CSL)
CSL yw un o ardaloedd newydd y Brifysgol ac mae’n gyflym wedi tyfu i fod yn ffefryn ymysg myfyrwyr – gan gynnwys fi!
Wedi’i leoli yn Cathays, mae’r adeilad yn cynnig ystod eang o ardaloedd astudio ar gyfer gwahanol anghenion. P’un ai ydych yn edrych am ardaloedd tawel i astudio’n annibynnol, mannau i gydweithio, neu seddi anffurfiol ar gyfer ymlacio, mae gan y CSL pob dim.
Cyngor: Yn ystod y tymor arholiadau bydd angen i chi gyrraedd yn gynnar er mwyn bachu sedd!
Ble Mae Eich Hoff Ardal Astudio?
Dyma ddim ond rhestr fer o’r mannau astudio gwych sydd gan Gaerdydd i’w cynnig, ac rwy’n eich annog i fynd i ystod ohonynt er mwyn dod o hyd i’ch hoff un. Gall fod yn gornel cudd mewn llyfrgell, caffi prysur, neu ardal tu allan yn yr haul – mae gan Gaerdydd pob dim.
