Celebrate The Children
Running in partnership with Celebrate The Children UK, this is a weekly Social Skills group for children and teenagers on the autism spectrum. The Developmental Individual Relationship (DIR) based approach is used to support the children to develop social skills through meaningful experience based interactions. Volunteers will help to deliver a mixture of group activities e.g. Circle time, parachute games, obstacle courses as well as one to one child led play where staff and volunteers support their child to regulate, engage, communicate, problem solve and think independently. Volunteers will receive coaching by an experienced staff member. Formal training in the DIR model is also provided.
When: Saturdays (term time only) 9am - 11am: 3-8 year olds and 11.15am – 1.15pm: 9-16 year olds

Children's Assisted Reading Scheme (CARS)
A school based project at Corpus Christi High School where volunteers assist Year 7 pupils by providing one to one support through paired reading sessions. Pupils who need help to improve their reading and literacy benefit greatly from this chance to get extra support. This project would be great if you are considering going on to teach or do a PGCE, and all volunteers will be eligible to undertake the Diploma of Professional Development in Leadership.
When: Wednesdays / Fridays 1pm – 4pm

Friends 4 U
A partnership project run by Cardiff Council Children’s Services, Friends 4 U is a befriending scheme for children who are on the Children in Need register. Volunteers take the children out once a week for around 2 hours to do something fun and interesting! Full training will be provided by Cardiff Council Children’s Services Team.

Homework Club: Allensbank
Volunteers support 9-11-year-olds who have been identified as needing extra help with school work. We are looking for enthusiastic, motivated volunteers, who are patient and understanding.

Make A Smile
Make a Smile is a student led initiative where volunteers visit a range of children’s hospital wards and centres dressed as well-known beloved children’s characters. Volunteers will be trained to attend a range of events including charity events, birthday parties etc. We are looking for fun, outgoing volunteers that can act as a character, be passionate about the work and keep the focus on the children.
There is a training event on Wednesday 13th December in the SU if you would like to attend before you apply! This way you can find out if this is the project for you!

Primary School Tutoring
Ideal to gain experience in a classroom, or for those who need to complete set hours for their PGCE. Volunteering as an in-class assistant, you will gain insight into a classroom environment and the Key Stage 1 & 2 curriculum.

Routes into Languages
If you have a passion for languages and would like to inspire the next generation of linguists as they embark on their language journey, then why not become a Routes into Languages Ambassador? The main objective of the role is to assist the Routes into Languages Cymru project team to increase the uptake and visibility of modern languages and to encourage school pupils in Wales to study modern languages by delivering motivational talks and classroom support in primary and secondary schools in Wales. The role also involves providing support in careers fairs, A Level Masterclasses, PLA training days and the Spelling Bee final – activities can be mixed and matched depending on your timetable, experience and interests.
Full training will be provided and continuation on the project is dependent on you carrying out the role to the satisfaction of the Project Co-ordinator.
When: All year, days flexible depending on your timetable and on events/ requests.

Student Science Super Heroes
Cancer Research Wales need students to help develop a school based information pack to raise awareness at an early age of the importance and wonders of science.
You’ll be working closely with Cancer Research Wales’ Community Fundraiser and their Scientific Projects & Communication Manager, Dr Lee Campbell to develop their NEW schools programme.
Once fully developed this pack will form part of a Wales wide outreach education programme for primary schools with students being offered the opportunity to support/deliver sessions.

The Learning Club (TLC)
Delivered in partnership with ACE, Cardiff. Volunteers will help in learning sessions for primary school-aged children from the most disadvantaged areas of Cardiff who need your support with their education. Ideal for those who can give two hours a week, which can really make a difference. Teaching experience is not essential.
When: Wednesdays and Thursdays 5pm - 7pm and Saturdays 10am - 12pm

Thrive
A support group for children ages 0-12 with a variety of additional needs. The group meets at two indoor soft-play centres. Volunteers support, entertain and engage with the children, giving the parents the opportunity to have some respite.

Wednesday Club
A fun after-school activity club. Volunteers deliver activities for the children including arts and crafts, cooking, outdoor sports and indoor games linked to the curriculum.
