Trans Self Defense Session

Sat 22 February 2025 15:30-18:00

Y Stwdio (1st floor SU)

In collaboration with TANGGS, Cardiff Uni Jiu Jitsu Society is offering a 2.5 hour practical self defense session for trans folks, especially those with little or no experience of martial arts. The session, taught by one of our incredible senseis, will include instruction on blocking attacks, joints locks and safe falling. There is no restriction on who can buy a ticket - if you feel that this session will be useful for you, come along! Wear comfortable clothes that are easy to move in (e.g. sports wear or a light t shirt and joggers), and bring a bottle of water with you.

The session will aim to be as accessible as possible so please contact @jitsu.cardiffuni on instagram with any accessibility requests and we will try our best to accomodate them.

As part of LGBT history month, it is important to acknowledge that trans people have historically faced, and still do face, heightened risks of violence and discrimination compared to others in the queer community, and this workshop aims to provide skills to improve personal safety and empowerment. This event will be raising money for the charity Mermaids, which provides support for transgender young people.
