We are Cardiff Nightline, a student-run listening service open to all Cardiff students. Our goal is to give callers a space to share whatever hardships they may be facing, whether they be big or small. Callers can phone us if they have issues at home, if they are feeling lonely, or if they are comuting back home after a night out. Regardless of what the motive for the call is, our mission is to provide listening support to students who need it. To do so, we operate in line with our 5 core values, and we guarantee to offer Non-Directional, Confidential, Anonymous, Non-advisory, and Non-judgemental support. 

By joining us, you are not just being part of cardiff Nightline, but you are becoming an extension of the evergrowing Nightline Association- a service that currently operates all over the UK and even in some parts of Europe. Throughout 2020-2021 the associations' UK bodies have taken an average of 53 calls per night,  attending to almost 10,000 callers. So although listening can sometimes seem insignificant, the numbers don't lie and the impact of this volunteering service is massive. We are actively looking for volunteers and would love for you to be part of our growth! 

Are you interested but not yet convinced? Well, this GIAG has been designed to increase your familiarity with the service and give you a taste of what volunteering with us is like. During the first half, potential volunteers will get a short presentation about what the service is. This section will cover questions such as: What does following the core values entail? What are the expectations for our volunteers? What types of calls have we received and can we receive? And what support strategies are in place in case of a particularly heavy call. During the second half, you’ll participate in an activity designed to put you in the shoes of both volunteers and callers. This part will allow you to experience all perspectives and will help you  truly understand everything that goes on during one of our shifts. Make sure to sign up as spaces for this session are quite limited!
