Cardiff Medicals Rugby
Welcome to Cardiff Medicals RFC.
The Roots.
We are Cardiff Medicals RFC, one of the oldest medical school rugby teams in the UK. With a rich history dating back over 110 years, we have an old boys network covering several generations and a huge variety of specialities - not to mention some famous faces (Jamie Roberts, Hallam Amos, Richard Parks, Jack Matthews OBE, Gwyn Jones & more…). This extensive network means our club offers immense welfare support as well as a huge sense of pride that very few rugby clubs can.
The Rugby.
We field 2 teams weekly, with both playing BUCS and also NAMS (National Medical Schools Cup). Playing in BUCS allows us to compete against other university sides at a very high standard week in, week out; both our 1st and 2nd XV often dominate University 1st teams and push for BUCS promotion yearly. We are the most successful Meds team in the country, with the most NAMS wins (20 of 28) and are unique in that we are the only team to have won the triple (1s, 2s & Sevens competition). We are the “team to beat” when it comes to the NAMS competition. We train on 4G twice a week, and also have weekly S&C sessions run by our specialist S&C Secretary.
The Rest.
Post-games, Wednesday nights are dedicated to weekly socials. Our yearly Old Boys dinner is always a night to remember and our Christmas dinner, Toga and Olympic socials are also unforgettable. We often go on tour, most recently to Dublin and will no doubt have one planned during your time at Cardiff. We are also involved in lots of charity work, recently fundraising upwards of £15,000 through our 3 peaks challenge and Pint2Pint cycle. Our network also provides great welfare support during and after your time at University and offers great connections for when you embark on your careers.
