Aerial Fitness
Cardiff University Aerial Fitness provides pole & aerial hoop fitness classes to our members in a safe, relaxed, social environment. Our classes provide individuals with the opportunity to improve their strength, flexibility, coordination, confidence and self-esteem in a fun, supportive and relaxed way. Not only this, but we accomodate to various styles to suit everyone's individual taste, including classic, lyrical and contemporary. As well as our pole & aerial hoop classes, we offer a number of FREE fitness classes per week which complement aerial and allow our members to become well-rounded athletes and dancers. These include: flow (+/- heels), floorwork, flexibility, strength and conditioning, as well as a variety of workshops to expand the horizons of our members even further.
There is something for everyone at the Aerial Fitness club! We can accomodate to preferences; such as being fully covered with our silicone pole; and allergies, such as nickel allergies with our new hypoallergenic stainless steel pole!
We support and encourage each of our members to improve through their lessons mastering spins, holds, technique and the control necessary within the sport, regardless of gender, size and shape. We are passionate about promoting a healthy body image, whatever it may look like to each individual, in both a mental and physical capacity. To do this, we have introduced an additional well-being instagram (@cuafwellbeing) this year for members to message and voice any questions, queries and concerns that they may not feel comfortable sharing with the committee, ran solely by our wellbeing officers democratically elected by our members!
A few of our achievements from last year:
- Silver tier status
- Welsh Dragon Pole Competition hosts & champions!
- Nominated society of the year!
Members have the opportunity to showcase their skills throughout the year, competing in a variety of events such as WCPC, the Welsh Dragon Pole Competition, IUHAC (hoop), and Varsity. We are also involved with various showcases, as well as our own, and host regular fabulous photoshoots with professional aerial-based photographers, which is an supportive and inclusive atmosphere for all our members to get involved in. In previous years we've had the chance to raise money for various charities through different events, such as showcases and events. This year, we are hoping to branch this out even further and get even more creative with our charity initiatives to raise as much as we can for charities that we are passionate about.
We hold regular socials, with various activities and themes for all members to participate in! We host both alcoholic and non-alcoholic socials to accomodate all of our members, such as pub quizzes, study socials, and group park runs!. Many members have chosen to become key to the running of our society either through a committee role or undertaking training and becoming an instructor.
This year we are very excited to announce that we will be introducing lyrical & contemporary style flows, intermediate hoop classes, and various workshops suitable for all levels.
You do not need any aerial experience to join - everyone is welcome!
