Welcome to the Cardiff Hornets, Cardiff University’s own dodgeball club! We are quickly becoming a bigger and bigger member of the Welsh dodgeball community and welcome players of any ability to come play this awesome sport. With us, you have the opportunity to improve your game and yourself. We have an all-round focus on improving skills, tactical knowledge, and fitness in a friendly environment. Whether you’ve played before or simply want to try something new, there’s a place for you with the Hornets!
Socials
The best way to improve team spirit is with a great social. Whether that's a pub crawl after a tournament, or a chill non-alcoholic night of party games, there are lots of ways to get to know everyone at Cardiff Hornets.
Competitive Play
We are a British Dodgeball affiliated team and, as such, we will be entering into University Opens. We also play in the BUCS Dodgeball leagues that run throughout the year, travelling all over for the tournaments. If game time is something that appeals to you, then you can be confident that we will accommodate you.
We also encourage players to check local adult dodgeball clubs set up across the UK (there's probably one near you!), and we have good rapport with Rhondda Dragons, our closest Welsh Dodgeball Club. If you can't get enough dodgeball, sign up to one of their training sessions!
Training
We have weekly training sessions at the Talybont Sports Courts every Wednesday (9AM - 11AM) and Thurday (5PM - 6.30PM). All you need is a water bottle and light athletic gear to get started! Training is fairly informal and we will tailor them to your needs; however, in the run up to a tournament we will focus on game strategy to makes sure the team is fully prepared.
A Word from the President
Dodgeball is an exponentially growing sport. More and more clubs are popping all over the UK; and even across the world, with 38 countries competing in the Dodgeball World Championships. I believe this demonstrates how captivating the sport is. It really is a great community no matter where you are, full of friendly people who love being part of team, and it's my hope that this club can add onto that. So whether it's your first year at uni or your last, dodgeball is great for anyone looking for a sense of community.
