Slash Hip Hop Dance

SLASH is a Hip Hop dance society formed in 2007 by ambitious, hard-working and creative individuals with a passion for dance.

We are a street dance society dedicated to promoting and expanding the hip hop culture through innovation and creativity. We incorporate different styles such as locking/house/popping/street/wacking/Krump and hip hop - hence the name SLASH! 

We hold weekly open classes which cater to all abilities. Our classes alternate between choreography and foundation/workshop classes on a fortnightly basis, with a focus on beginner- level dance in the first hour and intermediate-level dance in the second hour. Foundation/workshop classes on the other hand give you the opportunity to learn and explore other styles of dance, as well as incorporate them into a choreography by the end of the session.

We also run yearly auditions to be part of our crew. The SLASH Crew competes in University and national competitions such as UDO, Go Hard or Go Home (Nottingham Trent University), Welsh Varsity and the Cardiff University Dance Competition! Regular members of open class are also given the opportunity to perform at events alongside the crew such as the Cardiff University Dance Winter Showcase, the Fringe Festival and Afrogene.

We are proud to have won a few awards throughout the years:

• Best Small Society and Best Go Global Performance at the 2011 and 2012 society awards evenings
• Best Small Event at the 2013 awards
• Best Society in the 2014 awards
• Best Committee in the 2015 awards
• Best Go Global Performance at the 2017 awards

And we are also proud of our competition crew:

• In 2015 we qualified for Worlds at UDO street dance championships and beat Swansea in the intermediate hip hop category at Varsity. 
• In 2016 we placed first in our category at UDO Street Dance Champhionships and qualified for boths Worlds and Europeans.
• In 2017 we placed first in our category for the "Go Hard or Go Home" Dance Competition in Nottingham.
• In 2018 we placed second in our category at UDO Street Dance Championships in the Crew category
• In 2019 we placed first in the University category and fourth in the Intermediate category at UDO Street Dance Championships
• In 2023 we placed third in our category for "Go Hard or Go Home" Dance Competition in Nottingham, as well as won the People's Choice Awards
