Medieval Re-enactment Society
About us
Historia Normannis is a 12th century re-enactment group, focusing primarily on the events between the reign of Henry I and King John.
Historia Normannis prides itself as a society, bringing history to life in a historically accurate, engaging and exciting way. Our events and educational visits allow people to engage with history – seeing, feeling and hearing first-hand aspects of the lives and deaths of 12th century people – Knights, freemen, craftsmen, ladies of the court and Barons of the realm.
From dynamic and exciting massed combat, knights displaying their prowess in the tourney, displays of archery, woodwork, metalworking, to the singing and music of the court of the time, Historia Normannis presents you the workings of 12th century life, and offers a history lesson that you will never forget!

Craft
In our craft sessions, we make kit (aka medieval clothing!) over the year for shows in the summer months. We also sometimes have workshops for various different medieval crafts, such as leatherwork, maille work, pottery, embroidery and so on.
We have a Seneschal (an experienced instructor) who runs the craft sessions, who will help you with craft and guide you if you are inexperienced in sewing and other crafts.
Combat
In our combat sessions, you learn how to wield medieval weapons and shields. You'll first learn with wooden versions, before you are safed on blunt steel versions. You learn various medieval warfare tactics and how to safely fight both in pairs and as a team.
Like craft, we also have an experienced instructor, our Master of Arms, who will help and guide new members so you can learn in a safe manner and environment.
Shows
In the summer months, we go to various shows both locally and a bit further afield! Shows usually happen from April - July, though some smaller ones might happen in March and August. The main show that we prepare for over the year is Kenilworth, which happens every year at the beginning of May. This is an opportunity to engage with the public and help them learn about history in a fun way!
There is no obligation to go to shows during the year, as we know that most members of the group are students that have exams during show season.
