JOMEC Society
At the JOMEC Society, we're all about bringing students together to explore, learn, and thrive in the exciting world of journalism, media, Public Relations and communications. Our activities are designed to help you gain industry knowledge, develop valuable skills, and build a supportive community of like-minded peers. We strive to bring students from different courses within JOMEC together, and with students from other schools at Cardiff University, while developing networks that support the growth of our students, and inform their academic pursuits and their profession. Here's an overview of what we aim to do this year:
1. Host Expert Speaker Sessions
We invite experts in the fields of journalism, PR, advertising, branding, and other related areas to share their experiences. The sessions guarantee your chance to hear the best practices and ask questions to comprehend more about changing aspects of the media.
2. Arrange Guest Lectures from Other Departments
Media cuts across many disciplines: psychology, marketing, technology, and many more. Our guest lectures have practitioners drawn from various fields to speak about how those areas connect with media and communication, giving you a wide view.
3. Celebrate Student Achievements
By featuring Student Spotlights on Social Media, we proudly share member projects and showcase outstanding work. If you've done something that makes a difference, we will see it gets noticed!
4. Intercultural Exchange
We organise Intercultural Meet-ups to celebrate diversity and create friendships. This casual get-together is to make friends, share experiences, and learn about cultural understandings.
5. Film Days
Unwind with us on our Film Days: we screen movies in the lecture theatre, from classics to documentaries and blockbusters-a great way to relax with fellow members and discuss some fantastic films.
6. Organize Amusing Social Functions
We believe creativity is best fostered in a fun, caring atmosphere. Hence, we organize game nights, trivia contests, themed parties, talent shows, and open mics. These events are about laughter, bonding, and creating lifelong memories.
7. Provide Networking Opportunities
This quality helps bring together other students from various schools and societies to collaborate and network. Such events avail you of the opportunity to know people from different walks of life and open new avenues for opportunities and partnerships.
