Domestic violence is behaviour within a relationship used to gain control over a partner or relative. It is also important to emphasise that it can happen to anyone of any age, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity or race. Whilst statistics such as nearly 1 in 4 women are subject to violence by either a current or past partner and that 80% of the victims are female, it is important to highlight that this is not an issue solely confined to women.
Unfortunately domestic violence is an issue that remains silent and taboo. Manipulation is often subtle, so the victim themselves or those around them are unaware, providing even more reason to make everybody educated. We within the Domestic Violence Awareness Society (DVAS) are aiming to work alongside a number of Charities and Cardiff University to raise awareness and give a voice exposed to Domestic Violence!
Involvement within the society will consist of training and networking events including education and promotion of healthy relationships in all walks of life! As well as this, we have many exciting fundraising opportunities such as Quizzes, Cake Sales and collaborations with other Societies and Charities throughout the year!
Come and join us if you would like to be part of making a huge impact in raising awareness for Domestic Violence in Cardiff and the Vale (and have fun in the process)!
