Cardiff LINKS
WOULD YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO?
Fast and effective first aid can be the difference between life and death in an emergency.
St John Ambulance Cymru
St John Ambulance Cymru is Wales' leading first aid charity, offering a comprehensive selection of first aid courses, volunteering opportunities, national event cover and patient transport services. Cardiff LINKS is the student division of St John Ambulance Cymru at Cardiff University, supporting volunteering with St John Ambulance Cymru throughout your time at Cardiff. Cardiff LINKS is run by students for students, and is supported by a local and national network of volunteers and paid staff.
Cardiff LINKS
By volunteering with Cardiff LINKS your time and dedication could save a life. You will complete a series of advanced first aid training courses, designed to ensure that in an emergency you will have the skills to be the difference between life and death. You will then have the opportunity to utilise these skills at events/duties across Wales alongside teams of experienced volunteers and healthcare professionals, including events at the Millennium and Cardiff City stadiums. The skills you develop and experience you acquire as a first aider with Cardiff LINKS will enhance your CV and increase your employability. You will be able to meet students and volunteers, working as part of a tight knit friendly team and international community.
The Joining Process and Membership
We have GIAG sessions in September/October where you can come along to a training session and get a taster of how we run things. If you then wish to become a member, we will ask for an expression of interest. Depending on numbers we may not have enough spaces in our division for every person who is interested, if this is the case, we will randomly select those who will be given a place and others may be offered places at other local divisions.
If you have been given a place within Cardiff LINKS, you will receive a sign up email which will include information on how to sign up and to apply for a DBS. Examples of the documents needed for a DBS are: passport, driving license, birth certificate, adoption certificate, name change evidence and bank statement. For further DBS information please follow this link https://www.gov.uk/guidance/documents-the-applicant-must-provide. Note, DBS documents will need to be verified.
Our Expectations
As a Cardiff LINKS member, we expect each person to attend the weekly training session on Thursday. We also expect each member to undertake a minimum of 3 duties per term. Uniform is provided for duties and transport is organised on your behalf.
