Cardiff Medics Community First Responders are a group of around 35 medical students from years 3-5 who volunteer with the Welsh Ambulance Service University Trust (WAST). We volunteer all year round to assist the ambulanc service in providing pre-hospital care to unwell and injured people.
Our volunteers are trained by the Welsh Ambulance Service as Community First Responders (CFRs) to assess patients, administer advanced first aid, oxygen therapy, analgesia, CPR and the use of defibrillators. We also work with the clinical desk to identify more appropraite services a patient could use other than A&E. We go on shift in pairs attending 999 calls, where we assess and treat patients then handover to the ambulance crew or a clinical hub.
We train around 12 new responders each year and we pride ourselves on having a friendly, supportive community where you can meet like-minded people.
Applicaitons are open during August for students entering their 3rd and 4th year of medicine, and for internal intercalators. Apply here - https://forms.gle/KYbPPBHQynJpuonU7
