This week we've launched our new and exciting, dramatically-transformed Student Council - The Ministry of Change!
If you're interested in improving the student experience at Cardiff and want to be able to change what happens within the Students' Union, within the University and within the community, then nominate yourself to be a "Change Maker" in The Ministry of Change for Cardiff University Students' Union.
The Ministry of Change is th
e main decision-making body in the Students' Union. It has the power to make decisions about Students' Union policy, to put ideas to referendum (to be voted on by all students), and to oversee the work of, and mandate, the elected officers.
It was decided that the old system of student council needed to be updated as ideas kept returning at each session due to unnecessary complications and there were fears that the students elected were not reflective of the general student population at Cardiff University. Due to the elected officers views and the feedback from this year’s student councillors, a review was carried out and a new and improved democratic structure has been made.
The Brand new Ministry of Change has a variety of sections, consisting of a Scrutiny Committee, a University forum, a Union Forum, a Community Forum and a Services and Events Forum. The process of creating change begins through a student submitting an idea (on the website) in the aim to improve the student experience at Cardiff University. It is then the role of the Scrutiny Committee to place the idea submitted to the appropriate forum, whether that be, the university forum, the union forum or the community forum, where the idea will then be presented by the proposer of the idea and further discussed in the forum, and then voted upon. Each forum will discuss and vote on different ideas, depending on what gets submitted through the website, so if you want to be part of The Ministry of Change, think wisely about which forum you would like to be on, or you can even apply to be on more than one!
The new Ministry of Change offers the perfect opportunity to drive change within our Students Union and the University, and if you decide to get involved you'll be able to represent the views of students in discussions around change and improvements and be part of the change.
To nominate yourself this week, all you need to do is to fill out the nomination form provided on the website and submit it to Emma McKeogh, our Societies & Democracy Co-ordinator on 3rd Floor of the Union, between now and 12pm on Wednesday 10th October.
It is time that every single student knows that the Students’ Union works for you and can be improved and changed by you, so that every single student can get the best out of their student experience at Cardiff.
Get Involved - Love Cardiff!
