Model United Nations (abbreviated as Model UN or MUN) is an academic simulation of the United Nations, that aims to educate participants about international law, cooperation, and multilateral diplomacy. In Model United Nations, students take on the roles of diplomats representing states and participate in a session of an organization or committee, which is part of the UN (such as the Human Rights Council or the Security Council). Participants need to research their countries' position, debate, deliberate, consult, and eventually develop a new UN framework with solutions to world problems.

We meet every week to debate a different global topic, which can range from issues including child soldiers, natural disaster response, nuclear proliferation, climate change, and any other topic a UN body might discuss. Attendees represent UN member states, various NGOs and the Holy See.

Once every month on a Saturday, we also meet to spend a day having a Crisis Simulation. The topics for these simulations have included things like the Cuban Missile Crisis, 2020 US Presidential Election, Game of Thrones Themed as well as a Christmas-themed Crisis.  These simulations have a mix of role-playing, strong competition and team play as well as individual objectives and goals. Whilst different from the usual debates, these simulations can be challenging for those taking part but good fun.

Our members have the chance to travel around the world, to various university conferences in locations such as New York, Geneva, Oxford, Cambridge, Brussels and others. UNSCU hosts its very own 3-day MUN conference, CardiffMUN. Every year, our conference hosts participants and delegations from the UK, Europe, as well as other countries. Follow the link to this year's website www.cardiffmodelun.co.uk or alternatively this year's conference page www.facebook.com/CardiffMUN/ for more information and reasons to apply

MUN is a great way to meet new people and express your views on many current affairs. It doesn't matter what your degree is in, MUN is a society for all. With a range of beginner and experienced debates available, having any previous experience is also not an issue! Come along to one of our sessions and get involved!
