Sikh Society

WAHEGURU JI KA KHALSA, WAHEGURU JI KI FATEH!

The Cardiff University Sikh Society is a community for students who follow or are interested in the Sikh faith. We are a group that promotes inclusivity, unity, and service, embodying the core Sikh principles of seva (selfless service), sarbat da bhala (well-being of all), and equality. Whether you're Sikh or simply curious about the Sikh faith and culture, you are welcome to join us!

What We Do

Our society offers a wide range of activities and events to bring the Sikh and wider student community together. These include:

Langar on Campus:

  • A key part of our community outreach where we offer free meals to everyone, irrespective of their background, following the Sikh tradition of Langar (community kitchen).

Weekly Trips to the Gurdwara:

  • We organize weekly visits to the Gurdwara located on Pearl Street, giving members the chance to participate in community worship and connect with the local Sikh community.

Collaborations with Other Universities:

  • We frequently collaborate with Sikh societies from other universities such as Bristol and Swansea, holding joint events, socials, and charity drives to build a larger, interconnected Sikh community.

Regular Socials:

  • From meet-and-greets to cultural events, we host a variety of social activities to foster friendships and a sense of belonging such as game nights, go-karting, laser tag and many more!

Kirtan Darbar:

  • We collaborate with Bristol Univerisity to organise an annual kirtan darbar for all students.

Speakers:

  • We host outside speakers such as Basics of Sikhi, Sikh Awareness Society and Midlands Langar Seva Society.

Winter Wonderland:

  • We host an annual trip to Winter Wonderland (in Cardiff!)

Why We Do It

Our mission is to provide a welcoming space where students can explore and engage with Sikhi while making meaningful connections (a home away from home). We aim to promote Sikh values of equality, selfless service, and community welfare through our events and initiatives. Whether you're looking to practice your faith or learn more about Sikh culture, we want to make sure everyone feels part of our extended family.
