President's Welcome - Kamile Vaitkeviciute

Welcome to the Cardiff University Law Society!

The Law Society is the largest student-led society in the University, with over 600 members in the year 23/24. Regardless of your degree, all are welcome to become a member! The Law Society is extremely committed to upholding our core principles of diversity and inclusion. Irrespective of your age, gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, academic discipline, disabilities or anything else which makes you who you are, there is a place for you within our community.

Our goal is to provide members with a truly enriching and all-encompassing experience that supports both social engagement and professional development. We aim to create meaningful opportunities for students to network with peers, alumni, and professionals, helping them build lasting connections that will benefit them throughout their academic journey and beyond. This year, we are excited to introduce new Diversity & Inclusion initiatives, as well as expand our charitable outreach programs to further our impact within the local community and beyond.

A key focus for the Law Society is enhancing the employability of our members. To this end, we will continue to host exclusive networking events with top-tier law firms and legal professionals, as well as practical skills workshops, such as CV writing, interview preparation, and commercial awareness sessions. Our partnerships with leading international law firms—such as Linklaters, Clifford Chance, A&O Shearman, Freshfields, Slaughter and May, among others—give our members invaluable access to the legal profession. This year, we also plan to bring in speakers from non-traditional legal career paths, ensuring our members gain insight into a broader range of opportunities in the legal field.

As President this year, I’m focused on expanding the types of events we offer to cater to all interests. In addition to our signature mooting competitions, debating, and social events, we will be introducing more workshops on legal tech, mental health, and public speaking, reflecting the evolving needs of our members. I also aim to organise more non-alcoholic events to ensure that all members feel included and welcome, regardless of personal preferences.

Finally, improving communication between the Society and its members is a top priority. We are committed to being transparent and accessible, making sure that every member’s voice is heard. This year, we’ll be introducing more interactive platforms for feedback, as well as increasing our online presence to keep everyone informed and engaged.

Please be sure to reach out if you have any questions!
